Iran Arrests 9 More Christians After Christmas
Iran arrested 9 Christians after Christmas, accusing them of working with foreign agents to spread “corrupt Christian beliefs and ideas.”
This follows a “staggering” number of arrests of Christians before Christmas. About 150 Christians were arrested as a “warning” against evangelizing during the Christmas season, a time that causes many Iranians to be attracted to Christianity.
Iran regularly persecuted people who convert from Islam to Christianity, reports PJ Media.
“These people were in systematic contact with elements based outside the country, and spread corrupt Christian beliefs and ideas,” the state-run Tasnim news agency reported. The Christians were “misleading the people of faith, including Muslims, by setting up cults and home churches”.
PressTV Iran said the Christians were “engaging in corrupt evangelism and promotion of a falsified version of Christianity” and that “Zionists and evangelical extremists have historically found good friends in each other as they have targeted practicing Jews and Christians.”
In the past year, Iran has cracked down on Christian converts and sentenced many to at least 10 years in prison. The U.S. State Department designated Iran as a “County of Particular Concern” under the International Religious Freedom Act.
