Dear Friend of the Persecuted Church,
A few days ago, history was made in Pakistan.
Asia Bibi, a loving Christian wife and mother, was sentenced to death by hanging for the crime of blasphemy against the Prophet Mohammed. This “crime” took place one day when Asia was simply trying to share the love of Christ with Muslim co-workers. After being brutally attacked by these same workers, Asia was thrown into prison, where she spent 16 long months before being handed the shocking death sentence.
Why is this so historic? Because Asia is the first female in Pakistan to be sentenced to death for blasphemy.
Her case could set a precedent in this Muslim-majority nation, where Christians are already intimidated, harassed, and physically abused each and every day. If Asia is put to death, it could mean a rise in prosecutions of Christians — not just in Pakistan, but also in other nations where Islamic law is enforced. That’s why, as concerned friends of the persecuted church, it’s important for each one of us to intercede on this brave woman’s behalf.
I encourage you to sign CFI’s online petition to Susan E. Rice, U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, as we seek to make our voices heard about this urgent matter. We believe that it is imperative that the UN exerts pressure on the Pakistani government to steadfastly enforce laws protecting the humanitarian rights of all citizens, regardless of their religious affiliation.
After you sign the petition, be sure to share it with family and friends. Help CFI spread the word about this grave injustice by telling Asia’s story to everyone you know, and encourage them to get involved.
Lastly, please also remember to pray for Asia and her family during this dark, difficult time in their lives.
Thank you, as always, for your concern for God’s persecuted people.
