Prayer Alert! Muslims Behead German Captive
Today, several former Abu Sayyaf members have come to know Christ . . .
German hostage Jurgen Kantner was silent as Abu Sayyaf militants prepared to behead him, reported local media sources.
In a 1-minute ,43-second video leaked from a terrorist watch group, the 70-year old Kantner was initially on the ground, wearing black shirt and pants with his hands tied.
A militant speaking in an unclear dialect with his fellow Muslims helped Kantner to stand up.
With a curved knife Abu Sayyaf sub-commander, Muammar Askali alais Abu Rami reportedly then emerged and grabbed Kantner, who only managed to utter: “Now he’ll kill me.”
Kantner was seen in the video struggling for his life as his throat was slashed back and forth, with chants of “Allahu Akbar” heard in the background.
The executioner placed Kantner’s head upside down near his neck and walked away.
Please, pray for Mr. Kantner’s family members who had to endure the knowledge of the agony of his ordeal from afar.
Kantner and his wife Sabine had been sailing off Malaysian waters when they were kidnapped on November 5 last year. His wife was killed during the abduction. Abu Sayyaf had demanded roughly $600,000 in exchange for Kantner’s release, setting a deadline of February 26. Germany is known as one of the few countries who will negotiate with kidnappers and pay ransom.
Abu Sayyaf is a small but extremely violent Muslim organization of some 500 members based in the Muslim majority province of Mindanao, in the far south of the Philippine Islands. The separatist group’s driving goal is to create a radical state under Islamic law in the southern Philippines for the Moro People, part of the country’s Muslim minority group, using fear and violence to achieve its goal.
Former Killers Find Christ
The Muslim group Abu Sayyaf, or “Bearers of the Sword”, was originally funded by a relative of Osama Bin Laden. It first became active in the early 1990s and has been responsible for kidnappings, piracy, and bombings across the southern Philippines and in the Malaysian state of Sabah.
In 2002, millions followed the kidnapping of American missionaries Martin and Gracia Burham. The Burhams were taken hostage by the Abu Sayyaf, and held for more than a year before a rescue attempt resulted in Martin’s death and Gracia’s release.
Today, several former Abu Sayyaf members have come to know Christ as their Lord and Savior because Gracia chose to forgive her captors. Gracia started a ministry to help reach Muslims in the Philippines.
Forgiveness, love, and grace are the few things that can reach through the barbaric culture of radical Islam, and touch the heart of even the most horrific terrorists.
Please, pray for those who persecute, torture, and martyr Christians. Pray even more so for our brothers and sisters who are persecuted for His name’s sake.
